    Childbirth classes are for anyone who wants to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them to make better birth choices. They direct your focus to what is most useful for you during pregnancy and birth.

  • What are the benefits of taking childbirth education classes?

    The benefits of taking a childbirth class have been documented in research. "Benefits of prenatal education classes have included increased confidence for labor and birth among women who attended prenatal classes, higher likelihood of breastfeeding, improved communication between childbearing women and their maternity care providers, decreased need for analgesic medication in labor, and increased satisfaction with birth."

  • What will I learn in a childbirth education class?

    Childbirth education classes provide you with the knowledge that may help you lower your risk of:

    • preventable complications 
    • having a baby born too early before 40 weeks completed gestation
    • Cesarean surgery that is not medically needed

    Childbirth education classes provide you with the knowledge that may help you increase your chances of: 

    • giving birth to a full term healthy baby
    • having a successful breastfeeding relationship with your baby
    • feeling confident about becoming a parent
    • making well-informed decision about your pregnancy and birth
    • communicating effectively with your health care team
  • I've read books and watched YouTube videos, how important is it for me to take a childbirth classes too?

    • The value you place on childbirth classes depends on your priorities and expectations for your pregnancy and birth. If you want to make well-informed decisions in partnership with your midwife or doctor a class is recommended.
    • A class will help you to learn what questions to ask, how to take care of yourself during pregnancy and postpartum, ways to prepare for labor, newborn care and breastfeeding.
    • You can learn about birth on the internet, but everything you read online isn't always helpful or true.
    • Participating in childbirth classes has a beneficial impact on outcomes.

    No, we welcome the broader community who desire an extraordinary educational experience in an inviting, warm and loving environment. Special content and opportunities are available for Christian families who desire to incorporate their faith with the curriculum.

  • I'm due in less than two weeks. Is it worth it to take classes?

    Yes, you can select the entire course and complete it in two to three days over a weekend.

  • Will these classes be helpful if I've given birth before?

    Yes, every pregnancy and birth experience is unique. It's a chance to try something new or change something you didn't like before.

  • What evidence-based resources are used?

    We routinely update the resources we use to stay current with the research and recommendations related to pregnancy, physiologic birth, breastfeeding and early parenting. The resources we use may include the March of Dimes, Childbirth Connections, Midwifery research and Evidence Based Birth amongst others.
